Botox®
“My female friends swore by it. I just want to look younger!”
Are you under the impression that aesthetic treatments are merely for women? While it may be true that women are the main clients at Bloom Plastic Surgery, men benefit significantly from many of the same treatments that women frequently enjoy from Dr. Jacob Bloom. Most men respond similarly to women when it comes to numerous minimally-invasive treatments and may be surprised to see how great they look after addressing some of the most common signs of aging on their skin. In particular, fine lines, wrinkles, and creases: although they are only one of the many ways in which our body begins to show its age, they are often the most obvious and the most troubling. As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and cannot bounce back in response to repeated movement of the facial muscles. Today, there is a non-surgical answer to fine lines and wrinkles: injections of the powerful neurotoxin Botox® can minimize these unwelcome signs that you are getting older and leave you looking as young outside as you feel on the inside!*
BOTOX® for men is an amazing way to decrease fine lines and wrinkles that are often among the first signs of aging on the face. BOTOX® is FDA-approved to treat expression lines that pop up when you are laughing, smiling, frowning or squinting, but it has other uses as well.
Botox® injections can address one or more of the following aesthetic concerns:
● Forehead: Sagging or creasing at the Glabella (between the eyes, also known as 11 lines) and forehead/brow; horizontal wrinkles of the forehead, asymmetrical eyebrows
● Eyes: Crow’s feet (fine lines at the corners of the eyes)
● Chin: Excessive dimpling of the chin
● Neck: Vertical neck creases
● Mouth: Drooping and sagging at the corners of the mouth; frown lines; marionette lines; upper and lower lip creases; gummy smile, thin lips
● Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the armpits and palms
Botox® is the most commonly-performed non-surgical rejuvenation treatment in the United States today. Yet when Botox® injections are performed by an inexperienced practitioner, or one without extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, the risk of unintended side effects and unnatural-looking results, as well as potentially serious complications, is greatly increased. When choosing your Botox® practitioner, it is critical to select a Board certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Jacob Bloom at Bloom Plastic Surgery in Chicago, IL in order to maximize your comfort, your safety, and your results! Join the thousands of patients who come to Dr. Bloom for Botox® injections to achieve a natural, relaxed and rejuvenated look.
How does Botox® work?
Botox® is a powerful drug known as a neurotoxin that, when carefully injected in small amounts, temporarily paralyzes muscle activity by blocking the neurotransmitters that enable muscle contractions. Preventing muscle contracts helps temporarily reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles for a younger, fresher appearance. While Botox® treatments cannot stop the aging process, some patients find that with regular treatments, static wrinkles can diminish and the formation of additional dynamic wrinkles is actually slowed!
Your Botox® Treatment
Your Botox® treatment can take place in our comfortable, welcoming office. It does not require anesthetic and usually takes no more than 10-15 minutes. The most common side effects are swelling and redness at the injection site; we ask patients to apply ice to the injection site immediately after the treatment and if this recommendation is followed, most of the side effects will disappear within 15-30 minutes. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities within an hour.
The rejuvenating impact of Botox® is usually visible within several days and can last about 3-4 months. Regular treatments are required to maintain optimal results. In some limited cases, patients may develop a tolerance for Botox®, diminishing the results; in these cases, Dr. Bloom may recommend the use of Xeomin®, an alternate form of the same neurotoxin. For some patients, a combination of dermal fillers and Botox® may be required to address multiple signs of aging and for a more complete, balanced rejuvenation.
