Neck Lift
Don’t let your neck betray your age: discover the benefits of a neck lift with Dr. Jacob Bloom!
We rarely think about how our neck affects our appearance. In fact, it may be one of the least noticed areas of the body, until the day we begin to see loose, sagging skin, unattractive bands running across or down the neck, or even the dreaded “turkey gobble” underneath the chin. Yet these unwelcome changes brought about by the natural aging process can subtly undermine your entire appearance, and add unwanted age to your look.
The male neck lift with Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jacob Bloom at Bloom Plastic Surgery in Chicago, IL can minimize these unwelcome changes to your neck, chin, and jowls to revitalize your youth. Your neck is a complex region, so it is critical to select a surgeon, like Dr. Bloom, with knowledge of both today’s advanced surgical techniques and the structures of the neck to maximize your comfort and safety while minimizing the possibility of risk and complications.*
Am I a good candidate for a neck lift?
Neck lift surgery is ideal for individuals who have begun to notice visible signs of aging in specific areas around the neck, including:
- “Turkey gobble” caused by sagging and excess skin
- Vertical banding
- Wrinkle rings
- Double chin
- Droopy jowls
A neck lift works by tightening the musculature of the neck, which has a tendency to weaken with age, repositioning and excising loose and sagging skin, and even removing pockets of unwanted fatty tissue around the neck and chin for a more sculpted, pleasing neck, chin, and jawline.
For patients requiring more extensive rejuvenation, Dr. Bloom may recommend that the neck lift be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as a facelift or a blepharoplasty to ensure that the rejuvenation results are balanced across the entire facial profile.
What is involved in a neck lift procedure?
The neck lift is a highly customizable procedure, individually tailored to address each patient’s unique problem area or combination of problem areas. Most neck lifts involve a combination of a platysmaplasty, in which the muscles of the neck are tightened and lifted, and a cervicoplasty, in which excess skin is lifted, trimmed, or removed. In some cases, liposuction may be used to remove excess fatty tissue around the neck, chin, and jowls. The position and placement of the incisions are specifically tailored for men and women to make sure that the cosmetic result is optimized.
The procedure is performed under IV sedation and involves small incisions that are well concealed under the chin and/or behind the ears. After the procedure, your head and neck will be snugly wrapped with a bandage, which can usually be removed the next day and replaced with a Velcro chin strap to be worn regularly for at least a week. Side effects of the neck lift are usually mild and temporary, and can include bruising, swelling, tightness, tingling, and pulling. Most patients can return to work and light activities a week after the procedure depending on your body’s unique healing capabilities; heavy lifting and strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.
