Am I a candidate?

Almost anyone is a candidate for a dimpleplasty procedure. Most importantly candidates should be looking for a permanent correction, not a temporary fix. Results can be seen immediately but take 2-6 weeks to reach their more permanent appearance. Patients with recent dental work or oral surgery, those who are on blood thinners should first consult with Dr. Bloom to confirm if they are a candidate for the procedure.

Procedure and recovery

Dimpleplasty is an in office procedure that takes about 20-30 minutes to complete per dimple. First, the area will be numbed with local anesthetic with near painless injections. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, Dr. Bloom will make a small incision on the inside of your cheek. A special suture technique is then utilized to create a long lasting correction. That suture will dissolve over time and be replaced with a permanent connection between the skin and underlying muscle. This creates a dramatically enhanced smile with cheek dimples. The internal cheek incision is repaired with absorbable sutures that will disappear in a week or two. Once the procedure is completed Dr. Bloom will provide a prescription mouthwash to be used twice a day for the first week. With no external cuts or scars, the need for complicated wound care is eliminated. Swelling in the cheek area can last for about a week, so patients should plan for a small amount of social downtime. Thankfully the dimpleplasty procedure is not very painful and postoperative pain control is managed with over the counter medications such as Tylenol and motrin.
