Fat Reduction
Fat has met its match at Bloom Plastic Surgery
Small pockets of fat in the face, neck, and other problem areas can now be corrected in minimally or non-invasive ways with Dr. Jacob Bloom at Bloom Plastic Surgery. Selfies, video conferencing and photos on social media can all enhance our perception of a “double chin” and other unsightly bulges in the neck region. Unfortunately the stubborn fat in this region is nearly impossible to eliminate on your own.
Thankfully Dr. Bloom can target these areas with multiple treatment modalities. Treatment options can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Fat reduction can be achieved with the following methods:
Kybella: the only FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to reduce the appearance of the double chin
Liposuction (liposculpture) works by gently using vacuum pressure to remove excess fat cells in the target zones
InMode Radio-Frequency Assisted Lipoplasty (AccuTite/FaceTite) – melts fat and contracts the fibro-septal network that contributes to sagging and leads to tightening of the skin.
Morpheus 8 – Small areas of subdermal fat can be addressed alone or in combination with Accutite/Facetite to an even more dynamic result.
How does each modality work?
Kybella is a specialized injectable treatment designed specifically to target and reduce the appearance of submental fullness, or excess fatty tissue under the chin that gives the appearance of a double chin. Kybella injections are composed of an FDA-approved, prescription-strength formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance that helps the body remove dietary fat. When carefully injected under the chin, Kybella kills a layer of fat cells so they can be reabsorbed into the body for a sleek, slim chin.
Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is only appropriate for patients who are within 10-15 pounds of their goal weight and who have good skin tone. For patients who have mild to moderate skin laxity, combining FaceTite and Accutitite with liposuction can help generate results not previously possible with liposuction alone. Liposuction precisely surgically targets unwelcome and unsightly fatty tissue in the neck and chin.
AccuTite and FaceTite are highly customizable procedures with a range of options tailored for your individual needs. Common treatment zones are the jowls, lower eyelids, nasolabial folds or small body areas such as the fat under the chin or bra line fat. Multiple areas can be treated in one visit and it is used almost exclusively in the office which means no need for general anesthesia! RFAL is a breakthrough technology that uses Radio-Frequency to heat tissue and skin in a controlled and safe fashion. Radiofrequency used by the InMode platform coagulates small blood vessels decreasing post-op bruising and swelling when compared to other minimally invasive procedures. This helps melt fat, contract the fibro-septal network that contributes to sagging and leads to tightening of the skin. When combining AccuTite with Morpheus 8 (Radiofrequency Microneedling) to target deep wrinkles or moderate skin laxity, Dr Bloom can deliver absolutely stunning results that last years! While some immediate results will be seen, final results are typically appreciated at 6-9 months after treatment.
Morpheus 8, Radiofrequency microneedling, is a fractional skin treatment that stimulates collagen production of the underlying layers of the skin called the dermis. By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, tissues of the face and body can be remodeled to reveal a more radiant youthful appearance. Radiofrequency (RF) energy is a scientifically proven method to remodel and rebuild collagen. With deeper settings it can target subdermal fat to help improve contours. It is minimally invasive, using a matrix of micro pins to renew the deeper layers of the skin with almost no patient downtime. Morpheus8 can be used on any area that can benefit from resurfacing and subdermal renewal. The most commonly treated areas include the face, periorbital area, abdomen, thighs, legs, and buttocks.
Required recovery after each treatment
Kybella is injected in the office without the need for anesthesia. The first injection series can cause swelling and discomfort that lasts for a few days. Subsequent treatments have been observed to have significantly less swelling.
Liposuction is one of the most powerful body contouring options available today, but it is still a surgical procedure and involves the potential for risk and complications. The liposuction of the chin, neck and bra line usually lasts about 1 hour, and can be performed as an outpatient procedure under, local, IV sedation or general anesthesia. Safety and your comfort are of the utmost importance when deciding where the procedure is performed and can be determined during the consultation process. After the procedure, treated areas will be dressed with a compression garment to prevent post-op fluid collection and swelling. The most common side effects after a liposuction procedure are moderate discomfort, bruising and some swelling.
The AccuTite and FaceTite procedures usually last about 1 hour, and is performed as an office procedure under local anesthesia. First Dr. Bloom will numb the area using local anesthetic to ensure patient comfort. Following this the AccuTite handpiece will be used to bring internal and external tissue temperatures to the point at which they contract and shrink during the healing process. Once the area has been uniformly treated, Dr. Bloom will use Morpheus 8 (Radiofrequency Microneedling) to help enhance results even further. Larger areas will be addressed with liposuction to remove the melted fat to decrease recovery time. Safety and your comfort are of the utmost importance performing your procedure. Small areas can successfully be safely and comfortably completed with oral sedatives and local anesthetic in our office procedure room.
With Liposuction and RFAL patients find they need about a week of downtime before returning to light activities taking care to avoid activities that increase heart rate or blood pressure which can aggravate swelling. All patients should avoid strenuous activity for at least four to six weeks to allow all swelling to subside and ensure complete healing.
